beginning
While invoking the protection of the Virgin Mary, works started on the
first of August 1876; the money for building the church came from some
donors and from selling the books written by Mons.Pio.
At
the beginning of summer, in 1881, the church was finalized and the day
for the solemn blessing was arranged on the tuesday of the eighth of
Corpus Domini, the 21st june, 1881.
WORKS FOR REFURBISHING THE CHURCH
The church and the choir after the
reburbishing works in the 60s
The
church has always been an integral part of the building complex of the
Monastery. During the 50s and 60s of the last century, it underwent
several reburbishing works, changes and it was also expanded. Such
changes did not take into account the original style and therefore they
did not harmonize properly with the existing structure.

Through the time the need for a new refurbishing arose, an aesthetic
refurbishing to amend the mixture of different elements and styles. In
1997 works finally began to unify the church architecture and bring it
back to its original idea, that was creating a modern and simplified
interpretation of the elegant lines of S.Maria Novella.
