The Dominican Sisters of the Holy Spirit  a small congregation established by a Dominican father Pio Alberto Del Corona (1837-1912) were approved by Pope Pius IX on the 8 May 1872 at a hearing granted to our Founder and to the first Mother superior Elena Bruzzi Bonaguidi.

The principal purpose was to form an “Asylum” of contemplative souls, dedicated, in accordance with the wishes of Pope Pio IX, to the education of the little girls. The sisters have been entrusted with a mixed program of life: from contemplation (contemplative interior-life) there issues the apostolate: charity through contact with neighbours, active- exterior life.
Recently the educational activity has been replaced by assistance to elderly women.

Father Pio Alberto del Corona wanted his “Asylum” to bear the name of the Holy Spirit since from the beginning the sisters exchanged between themselves the greeting of Saint Gregory the Great: “The Holy Spirit is Love”.

To live in accordance with the spirit of the founder, the sisters cannot restrict themselves to invoking the Holy Spirit, but they must also spread it is cult.To this end,the sisters, therefore, must meditate upon the texts that reveal and explain the Holy Spirit starting from the Bible and the Liturgy, continuing with the Fathers and the Doctors of the Church, especially Saint Thomas Aquinas and Saint John of the Cross.
